As of 4th June 2025 owners can apply for a Pet Travel Document (PTD) which allows them to travel freely with their pet dog, cat or ferret between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Owners of pets, including assistance dogs,  can apply online on the Gov.uk website for a PTD which will be valid for the lifetime of the pet. There is no charge to apply for the PTD, the only requirements are that the owner is over 16years old, the dog, cat or ferret is microchipped and the travel will only be between GB and NI, for onward travel to Southern Ireland an Animal Health Certificate (including rabies vaccination and pre travel worming) will still be required.
