As of April 22nd 2026 EU and NI issued PET passports for pets belonging to owners who are resident in the UK will no longer be valid for travel from the GB to the EU. Only Pet passports for pets belonging to owners whose main residence is in the EU will continue to be valid and new passports can be issued in the EU. This means that all UK dogs, cats and ferrets travelling to the EU and Southern Ireland will need to be issued with an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) valid for the duration of one visit to and back from the EU. The APHA (Animal Plant Health Agency) has also advised that there will also be changes made to Pet Travel Rules and AHCs also to be implicated during a transition period 22/04/26 to 01/10/2026, details of which have not yet been published! This will not affect AHCs that have already been issued, and it is notable that there are no changes in GB entry/re-entry requirements. Pet owners are now advised to check entry requirements with the relevant authority in the destination country before travel. We will update you on relevant changes to the issuance of AHCs as soon as they have been finalised.
